SUMMARY:SAAM Lunchtime Tabling - Illini Central HS and MS
DESCRIPTION:PCASA Staff will be visiting various high schools throughout the month of April during their lunch periods to share information about the services we offer and to engage students in meaningful conversation about sexual violence prevention using an interactive “What Would You Do” spinning wheel \nThe wheel has different scenarios and are designed to encourage conversations about different types of problematic behavior students may encounter.  They are then asked how they would handle the situation. \nSome of the scenarios include: \n\nYou see another student corner a friend and start talking.  Your friend tries to walk away and seems uncomfortable\, but the other person is blocking their way\nYour friend is texting a girl he is interested in.  She has stopped texting him back\, and he wants to drive by her house to see what’s going on.\nAt your basketball game\, your teammate comments that a player on the opposing teams should “join the women’s league”\n\nNone of the tabs on the wheel talk about anything of an explicit nature\, but are common situations people may find themselves in daily.  The goal is to get students to think about some of these common occurrences in ways they may not have before\, become more cognizant of how often these types of experiences happen\, and think of constructive ways to handle the situation.  Students who participate will receive PCASA schwag which could include PCASA water bottles or “I’m The Change” t-shirt and sunglass kits. \nIf you would like to schedule a time for PCASA to come to your school\, please email prevention@prairiecasa.org

SUMMARY:Sexual Assault Awareness Month/ Turn Our Town Teal Kick Off
DESCRIPTION:This April\, Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault (PCASA) will engage with the broader central Illinois community as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM).  During Sexual Assault Awareness Month\, PCASA will bring the theme of “Be The Change” to life by engaging different sectors of the public to help us raise awareness of sexual violence. \n\nOn April 1\, PCASA staff and volunteers will decorate downtown Springfield with teal ribbons and signs to help raise awareness.  Banners will also be on display at BUNN on Stevenson Drive and Green Hyundai West at Iles and Veterans Parkway. The color teal was designated the official color of SAAM in 2000 as the color is associated with trust\, devotion\, and healing.\nLocal law enforcement will be displaying teal ribbons on their cruisers through out the month of April. Participating agencies include: Auburn\, Chatham\, Jacksonville\, Pawnee\, Riverton\, Rochester\, Sherman\, Springfield\, and Williamsville.\nLocal coffee shops will feature Sexual Assault Awareness Month #BeTheChange stickers on their coffee sleeves or bags. Shops taking part include: Café Moxo and Grab-A-Java (both locations) in Springfield\, Scoop Du Jour in Chatham\, and Elm City Roastery and SafeCo Donuts in Jacksonville.\n\nFor a complete list of contributing businesses and organizations\, visit the PCASA website at prairiecasa.org \nThis year’s theme of “Be The Change” is based on the idea that everyone can play a role in preventing sexual violence. These are some ways we can all do to help make our communities safer: \n\nSpeak out when you hear or see disrespectful behavior\nPromote and model healthy relationships and boundaries\nAcknowledge that anyone can be a victim of sexual violence regardless\, of age\, race\, gender\, or sexual orientation\nAnd always believe and support survivors
