SUMMARY:SAAM Lunchtime Tabling - Williamsville High School
DESCRIPTION:PCASA Staff will be visiting various high schools throughout the month of April during their lunch periods to share information about the services we offer and to engage students in meaningful conversation about sexual violence prevention using an interactive “What Would You Do” spinning wheel \nThe wheel has different scenarios and are designed to encourage conversations about different types of problematic behavior students may encounter.  They are then asked how they would handle the situation. \nSome of the scenarios include: \n\nYou see another student corner a friend and start talking.  Your friend tries to walk away and seems uncomfortable\, but the other person is blocking their way\nYour friend is texting a girl he is interested in.  She has stopped texting him back\, and he wants to drive by her house to see what’s going on.\nAt your basketball game\, your teammate comments that a player on the opposing teams should “join the women’s league”\n\nNone of the tabs on the wheel talk about anything of an explicit nature\, but are common situations people may find themselves in daily.  The goal is to get students to think about some of these common occurrences in ways they may not have before\, become more cognizant of how often these types of experiences happen\, and think of constructive ways to handle the situation.  Students who participate will receive PCASA schwag which could include PCASA water bottles or “I’m The Change” t-shirt and sunglass kits. \nIf you would like to schedule a time for PCASA to come to your school\, please email prevention@prairiecasa.org

SUMMARY:Prevention and Podcasting 101
DESCRIPTION:Prairie Center staff  is working with the Franklin Middle School Boys Club Girls Club satellite program to teach students the basics of recording and producing a podcast. \nLessons 1 through 4 will include education and hands on experience  for 40 to 45 minutes of our 60 minute class.  The last 15 to 20 minutes of class\, students will discuss topics surrounding sexual violence prevention such as gender roles\, how to change negative social norms in a positive way\, and dealing with unrealistic expectations and rejection. \nIn lesson 5\, the students will be guests on PCASA’s podcast Prevention Is NOW and will be recorded.  PCASA staff will moderate the discussion.  Students will only identify themselves by their first name and can choose to use a pseudonym if they would prefer. \nIn lesson 6\, the student will have a chance to edit and do post production work on the podcast they recorded the previous week. \nThe podcast will be published at Anchor.FM/Preventionisnow. \n  \nLesson 1: Overview \n\nPodcasting Definitions\nWhy do people podcast\nWhat do you need to get started\nWhat are the different types of podcasts\n\nLesson 2: Recording Basics \n\nMicrophone Technics\nAdjusting and balancing levels\n\nLesson 3: Editing Basics \n\nHow to edit on a digital platform\n\nLesson 4: Post Production \n\nAdding Music and sound effects\nMixing down to a final product\n\nLesson 5: Record a podcast \n\nStudents will be a guest on the PCASA podcast Prevention Is NOW! discussing gender roles\n\nLesson 6:  Edit and Produce a podcast \n\nStudents will work on editing and doing post  production on the podcast recorded in Lesson 5.\n\n  \nIf you would like to find out more about PCASA’s Prevention and Podcasting Series\, please email prevention@prairiecasa.org
