Athletes As Leaders (AAL) encourages female high school athletes to be leaders in their schools by changing social norms to a culture of safety and respect.
AAL’s unique approach avoids traditional risk-reduction messages, which are only minimally effective in primary prevention and can often lead to victim-blaming and shaming. It also explores how all genders can perpetuate (or prevent) rape culture, recognizing everyone has a position to play in prevention.
The program is simple and easy to implement. It takes just 15 minutes once a week to teach inclusion, support, and empathy while encouraging community connections and a willingness to intervene.
