The bystander intervention approach recognizes that all people can positively impact the elimination of sexual violence in their community by identifying unhealthy behaviors that could lead to violent encounters and safely intervening before sexual violence can happen.
PCASA can provide college staff and students with practical bystander training with Bringing In the Bystander (BITB). The instruction is positive and interactive, with participants learning constructive communication skills, safe and healthy conflict resolution, and how they can offer help or support in situations where violence may occur without victim shaming or blaming. Most importantly, by becoming effective and empowered bystanders, they can change social and community norms, which the CDC says is essential in preventing sexual violence.
